Colon inertia is not uncommon. Unassisted bowel movements are rare as this individual must intervene with either supplements, medications, or therapies in order to move. Late-stage neurological conditions may also be contributing factors to this type of constipation. It has been my experience that colon hydrotherapy has improved bowel frequency and sensation in those suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. This group is often not taken at face value which leads to an increased risk for emergency operative intervention and there is an increased risk for obstruction.
May or may not have abnormal colon anatomy. Many have a history of chronic constipation and laxative use. Unable to move without the assistance of supplements, or therapies such as enemas or colonics
Inability to have an unassisted bowel movement due to disease progression or obstruction

There is no way to prevent an anatomic abnormality and reverse many diseases but a proactive approach to achieving regular bowel movements is likely to promote a state of overall wellness and slowing of progressive or degenerative disease.
